Marianne Nielsen Beal

Marianne was born on April 7, 1850 in Lyngas, ASarhus, Denmark.  She died on January 14, 1924 in Ephraim, Utah.  Her parents were Niels Thomsen and Ane Marie Johnsdatter.

Marianne attended school in Ephraim and finished the Third Reader, which was almsot the equivalent to an eighth-grade education.

She was the third wife of Henry Allen Beal.  Her firstborn son died when he was fourteen month of age.  Later, two more sons died in infancy.

She was an excellent cook, and made butter and cottage cheed for all three families.  She knitted socks for the boys and petticoats for the girls.  She was proficient in the art of weaving,. a craft she had learned from her mother.  She wove carpets and also many different materials which were used for clothing.  Her large loom was kept in an upstairs room.  In this way she was able to supplement the family income.

Marianne also worked in the fields, tying the grain into bundles.  She took care of a garden and orchard, and cared for the poultry, pigs and cows.  

She was a kind and thoughtful persona nd was respected by all memberts of her husband's three families.
