Ansine Elizabeth Nielsen Jensen

Ansine was born on July 24, 1835 in Egberg Mark, Hjorring, Denmark.  She died on May 31, 1903 in Ephraim, Utah.  Her parents are Niels Anderson and Dorthea Christensen.

Ansine's family she was born into consisted of seven children.  At age twenty she married Johannes "John" Christian Jensen.

They joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in spite of criticism from family and friends.  The Jensen family left their native land for America.  During the sea voyage a terrible epidemic of typhoid fever broke out and Ansine's four children were stricken with the illness and died.  They were buried at sea.

They arrived in Salt Lake on September 23, 1862.  After a short stay they were encouraged to settle in Sanpete County.

They purchased some land in Ephraim and settled into their first home; a dugout in a hill side.  Soon they were able to build a nice rock house with a big barn out front.  Eight more children were born to them including six sons to help with the wheel-making profession and the farm.

Ansine lot John, when she was fifty-three years old and still had three young boys to raise.  In spite of poor health, she continued to work the farm with the help of her family until she passed away, at age sixty-seven.  She had been a widow for thirteen years.
