George Martin Hinkel Allred

George was born on September 27, 1837 in Pittsfield, Pike, Illinois.  He died January 14, 1926 in Ephraim, Utah.  His parents are Martin Carrel and Mary Heskett Allred.

George's parents died when he was two years old and his grandfather raised him.  They came to Utah in 1851, crossing the plains in an ox train under Isaac Allred, and located in Manti.  In March, 1852, they moved to Spring City, but were very soon driven out by Indians.  They returned to Manti and in 1854, came to Ephraim.  The family consisted of George, his grand-parents, James and Elizabeth and his sister, Eliza E. Edwards, widow of William, who died on the way across the plains.

They assisted in constructing the fort.  In 1865, he, with others, went to Circle Valley, staying for two years when they were driven out by Indians.  He took part in both Indian wars, being in several engagements in Spring City in 1853 and Rabbit Valley in 1867.

He had a nice farm of forty acres, well stocked and a comfortable residence in the City.  In 1895, he was elected a member of the Ephraim City Counsel.  His wife was Karen Maria , daughter of Neils and Helena Sorenson.  She was born in Denmark, January 7, 1843.  They were married in Fort Ephraim, March 16, 1857.  She died in Ephraim, Utah on April 16, 1892.
