Jens P. Anderson

Jens was born on January 4, 1826 in Gammelstrup, Gammelstrup Fjends, Viborg, Denmark.  He died on December 11, 1910 in Ephraim, Utah.  His parents are Anders Jensen and Anne Catherine Lauritsdatter.

Jens learned the trade of miller and served nineteen months in the army in Denmark.  He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on November 5, 1852 and went to Utah, crossing the plains in an ox train under Capt. Olsen, arriving in Salt Lake City, October 5, 1854.  

While working on a canal in Salt Lake City, a bank caved in on him and he had to walk on crutches for two years.

In 1856, he came to Ephraim and assisted in building the fort.  He also took part in the Black Hawk War.

In 1862, he moved to Glenwood, among the first settlers, built a home, but was driven out by Indians, losing everything.  

He returned to Ephraim in 1866, and engaged in farming.  

His first wife, he married in Denmark, was Mary Jacobsen.  She died in Salt Lake City, February 9, 1855.  Their only child, a daughter died while crossing the ocean.

His second wife was Rebecca C. Friize.  She died on November 24, 1866.  She was born in Denmark.

His third wife was Marie, daughter of Thomas Christian Jensen and Karen Marie Ivarsdatter Jensen.  They were married on December 6, 1866.  She was born in Denmark January 12, 1842.
