John August Anderson
John was born on December 18, 1844 in Malmo Sankt Petri, Malmohus, Sweden. He died on February 1, 1920 in Ephraim, Utah. His parents are Johannes Anderson and Matta Pehrsdotter.

John and his parents came to Utah in 1863, crossing the plains in Captain Sanders company, reaching Ephraim in October. In 1863, they were called to Circle Valley to assist the settlers, but had to return in 1866, on account of Indian problems.
John was raised on a farm, he also worked at railroading and other occupations. He took part in the Black Hawk War, and in 1866 went back to the Missouri River after emigrants. In 1865, he went on a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Sweden.
He was a member of the City Council in 1874-75, City Reorder in 1878-1882, and City Assessor and Collector for six years. In 1888, he became the manager of the Ephraim Co-op store, which position he held for over six years. He also served as a member of the Quorum of Seventies for several years.
He farmed 80 acres of land. He was married in Salt Lake City on September 20, 1869 to Mariane Christensen. She died on December 29, 1891 leaving him with 9 children.
