Karen Frantzen Dorius

Karen was born on May 1, 1835 in Nas Hendenmarken, Norway.  She died on June 21,  1897 in Ephraim, Utah.  Her parents were Lars Frantzen and Martha Marie Johansen.

Abelone married Anders Hansen in 1839 when she was 22 and he was 37. The first four children were born in Denmark, unfortunately, the third child was born a stillborn. Abelone was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 4, 1852, and then she and her family left for America in December 1855.

They traveled on the ship “John J. Boyd”. Sadly, her eleven year old son Jorgen died during the journey and was buried at sea. The remaining members of the family arrived in New York City in February 1856, and then made their way to St. Louis, Missouri. In St. Louis, she lost her four year old daughter. In April of that same year, she gave birth to her fifth child. Her husband was baptized in March of that year as well. They finally arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in September 1856, and settled in Ephraim, Utah.
