Maren Fredrikka Peterson

Maren was fifteen years old, when she was employed with a family of twelve where she did all the cooking and baking of bread.

At age twenty-one, she and her sister, Maria, hard the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were baptized, June 25, 1861.

Maria went to America to earn money enough to send for Maren.  Two years later, Maren joined Maria united in Chicago, working for a couple of months they decided to move on to Omaha to be with other members of the Church.

At the Omaha station, they met three elders who made arrangements for them to go to Laramie free of charge with an English family.  They were three weeks traveling from Laramie to Utah by ox-team.  They walked all of the way and arrived in Salt Lake City. They camped in the old tithing yard.  Maria married and Maren went to Ephraim and lived with a family for a time.

Carl Christian Anton Christensen had just returned from his mission to Norway and was visiting in Ephraim and met Maren.  Just three weeks after their meeting, she accepted his proposal of marriage.

After coming to Utah, she suffered from Typhoid Fever, and then Rheumatic Fever.

Her testimony was that the Lord had been mindful of her in her trials and sorrows.  He gave her the needed gifts and comforts which brought trust and solace to support her discouraged soul.
